Floral arrangements are one of my favorite ways to accent a room.  The perfect way to add a personal unexpecteed touch to a space, tie the room together and bring a little of the outdoors in.  Florals can be the centerpeice for Holdiays and special occasoins or can be casual, simple and understated to celebrate the everyday.

In the September 2013 edtion of Martha Stewart Living No. 237 featuring the article titled "Martha's Weekend Arrangements", Martha offers up a peak into her 19th-century cottage in East Hampton, Lily Pond,  and provides us with inspiring fresh take on floral arranging and insights into the art for creating the perfect boquet in a variety of spaces, suitable for every occasion.

• Coordinate the stems in your arrangement with the color palette in your space:  The colors you choose should help to tie together the colors of your wall, celing and trim and provide a cohesive balance between the architectural elements in the room.

• Select foliage and materials that are local and in season:  Choosing native flowers and greenery will create a seamless "natural" flow from the outdoors / in and create a thoughtful transistion that will reflect your surrroundings and celebrate the season. You will also be priveleged to a more abundant array of readily available and cost effective stems to choose from.

• Balance out the space by selecting the right scale for your arrangement:  Large or small / heavy or light, choosing the right height and width of your floral peice can help to ancor the room and lead the eye.  Choose the size of your arrangement depending on where it is going in the space and the surrouding furniutre and accessories.  Depending on what your trying to acheive or invoke with the arrangement will determine the appropriate scale in relation to the space.

• Mix and Match:  Have fun with the arrangement and don't be affraid to try something unexpected by experimenting with contrasting colors or themes.  Try using a variety of containors in unusal and creative ways. A dutiful and purposfull composition can become a curious focal point, the topic of conversation, and make for a memoriable and lasting impression.

• Create a mood:  Whether arranging for a relaxing weekend retreat or creating a stunning sensation for a fancifull reception, use the floral arrangement as a way to invoke a responce.
